Building evaluation capacity for community-rooted arts organizations

Outcome Studio began with a question we kept hearing during our work with Creative Forces®: How do we measure the impact of community-based creativity, connection, and wellbeing—especially when the usual metrics don’t fit?

As consultants on a national arts and health initiative, we saw just how often community arts organizations were asked to "prove" their value using tools designed for clinical trials or academic research—not community work. In response, we launched a capacity-building model rooted in what these programs already knew to be true.

Our goal:

Help organizations name the change they’re making, translate their experiential knowledge into credible outcomes, and tell their stories in ways that funders and stakeholders understand—without losing the nuance, care, and power of their work.

About Kelly

Kelly Feltault, PhD is a teaching artist, evaluator, and certified therapeutic arts facilitator with over 25 years of experience helping nonprofits, foundations, and arts-based programs measure what matters. With a BFA in Painting and Printmaking and a PhD in Anthropology, she brings both creative and analytical skills to her work. Kelly specializes in building evaluation capacity for small, community-rooted organizations—especially those working in arts, health, and social change. Her workshops are grounded in real-world practice, not jargon, and are designed to help you name the impact you're making, collect meaningful data, and tell your story with confidence. She believes evaluation should be a tool for learning, strategy, and equity—not just compliance.

"I worked with Kelly and Hannah as part of a team providing creative writing workshops to service members, patients, staff, and family members at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.  Their personalized and patient guidance was instrumental in creating a robust program evaluation process, which enabled us to effectively demonstrate and communicate the impact of the workshops. As the importance of creating an evaluation-based foundation for new projects and programs is becoming more and more important, there's no better pair to shepherd one through a sometimes scary process like Kelly and Hannah."
